Synopsis:

Carrie (Chloe Grace Moretz) is a teenager who is 'weird' to her classmates.  She was raised by a mother who is somewhat fanatical about religion.  Carrie, who previously homeschooled, made her a less sociable person and unable to socialize well. This made her a target for bullying by the popular kids at her school.

One day, Carrie, who just got her first period, didn't know about it because no one had ever told her.  Carrie thought the bleeding that happened to her would end her life.  So Carrie became hysterical and asked her friends for help.  But her friends mocked her and recorded the embarrassing incident.  Until her gym teacher came and helped her.

Carrie is angry at her mother for not telling her about menstruation.  Her mother believes that menstruation is a sin and a warning from God.  Conflict arises between the two.  A strange thing happens when Carrie can't control her emotions.

Carrie begins to realize that she has powers beyond reason, like telekinesis.  Carrie secretly starts to learn more about it.  Carrie accidentally interacts with Tommy (Ansel Elgort) and develops feelings for him.

Tommy is the boyfriend of Sue (Gabriella Wilde), one of the people who witnessed the bullying that happened to Carrie.  Sue realizes that Carrie has feelings for Chris.  To reduce her guilt towards Carrie, Sue asks Tommy to be Carrie's partner at the school prom.  Sue doesn't realize that the prom will become a huge problem for them.

What will happen to Carrie?

Review:

Carrie (2013) is a remake of the 1976 film Carrie, adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name.  This film is the fourth in the Carrie franchise after The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999) and Carrie (2002).  The story presented is quite interesting and presented well.

The story flows systematically and is easy to understand.  The background of the story and characters are built well.  The characters of the actors are also clearly visible.  Conflict development and resolution are also done well.

The acting of the actors can be said to be quite good, although there are some scenes and expressions that seem a little stiff.  For example, when Carrie learns to fly books in her room.  The expression shown by Carrie in that scene is not convincing and looks a little ‘fake’.

The choice of music is also done well and supports each scene.  The effects used are not too excessive and are quite subtle.  The camera movement is also done well in showing every detail needed.

Unfortunately, there is something that is a little illogical where her gym teacher seems to 'control' the school too much and acts too biased towards Carrie.  As if she wants to show herself as a good teacher.  But for some reason, her acting feels a little distracting.

Overall, this film is a pretty interesting film to watch, especially for lovers of thrillers and other supernatural things.

Memorable Scene:

Carrie uses her powers to make her mother stand from her praying position.  Her mother didn't expect Carrie to do this to her.  In this scene, her mother feels guilty for choosing to raise Carrie.

Memorable Dialogue:

"What did Carrie White ever do to you?"

Ending:

Cliffhanger

Recommendation:

Worth to Watch.
