Warning:

Violence, strong language, sensitive themes, and sensual scenes.

Synopsis:

Lala (Putri Marino) is a model student at her school.  She excels in her studies and is a talented synchronized diver, winning several championships. Her late mother was a swimmer, and her father is a swim coach. Lala is trained by her father and frequently competes in tournaments. Despite pressure from her father, Lala handles it all well.

Yudhis (Adipati Dolken) is a rebellious newcomer to Lala's school. On his first day, he gets into trouble for wearing non-regulation shoes, resulting in their confiscation. Yudhis tries to retrieve his shoes from the teacher's lounge, which is where he meets Lala.

Lala and Yudhis are punished together after Lala is caught helping Yudhis get his shoes back. This punishment marks the beginning of their closeness. Their bond grows stronger as Lala feels understood by Yudhis. However, Yudhis seems to have a negative influence on Lala, leading her to skip school and neglect her training.

Things worsen after Yudhis and Lala start dating. Yudhis' possessive nature surfaces. He manipulates Lala, hurts her loved ones, and even resorts to violence against her. Lala's attempts to end the relationship only fuel his obsession.

Will Yudhis and Lala's relationship end well?

Review:

"Posesif" tackles a sensitive topic but resonates with the reality of many relationships. The film is based on research highlighting the prevalence of domestic violence in relationships.  It effectively portrays the often-trapped state of individuals in toxic relationships, making it difficult for them to leave.

The story and character development are well-executed. Viewers can clearly understand each character's background and the underlying issues that shape them. The conflicts and the ending are well-paced and thought-provoking.

Initially, the film's poster suggests a typical young romance filled with flowers. However, the film delivers a surprising and impactful narrative. The actors' natural and convincing performances are commendable. It's no surprise that Putri Marino received recognition for her acting in this film.

Beyond the main cast, the supporting actors also deliver solid performances. The chemistry between the actors is evident.  Unfortunately, there are scenes or camera angles where Putri Marino appears too mature compared to the other actors, making her seem slightly out of place for a high school student.  However, in other scenes, she looks like a typical high schooler.  This inconsistency in appearance might be due to makeup choices.

The music and sound effects are well-chosen. The camera movement and color composition are also well-executed. Overall, the film presents a cohesive story and visually engaging experience.  Viewers can gain valuable lessons from it, especially for those struggling to move on from toxic relationships.

Memorable Scene:

Lala feels pressured and confused when faced with the choice of pursuing her dreams or conforming to Yudhis' wishes regarding her university choice, which will determine her future.  Her father tells her that her future is in her hands and that she should be confident in her own choices.

This scene highlights how we often neglect what's best for ourselves due to the demands of "love."  We should prioritize ourselves and build a good future for ourselves.

Memorable Dialogue:

"It's not your responsibility, you know. Whether Yudhis changes or not."

Ending:

Happy Ending

Recommendation:

Must Watch.
