Synopsis of Aruna & Lidahnya:
Aruna (Dian Sastrowardoyo), a food lover who finds inspiration from food, works at the NGO, One World. She is tasked with checking several locations to ensure the bird flu outbreak that is rumored to have attacked humans. The project is a collaboration between her workplace and the PWP2 institution.
Aruna isn't convinced that the project they're doing is a serious one because there are many oddities in the data she has. Aruna plans to make the trip a way for her and Bono (Nicholas Saputra) to go on a culinary tour and find the fried rice recipe she's been looking for. Bono is her best friend who works as a chef, he wants to join the trip to find new inspiration.
Aruna's plans are disrupted when Farish (Oka Antara), the man she once liked, suddenly appears on the trip. Farish works under PWP2 after moving from One World and tries to make sure that Aruna does her job properly. Additionally, Bono also invites Nad (Hannah Al Rashid) to join the trip. Nad is their best friend and the woman Bono likes, and she works as a food writer.
In the research, Aruna finds many inconsistencies, but Farish never believes Aruna's suspicions. Additionally, Farish doesn't like the presence of Bono and Nad, which further convinces him that Aruna is not serious about the project she's doing. While Aruna does have the intention of going on a culinary tour, it doesn't mean she's not serious about working.
Problems arise one by one, and clashes occur. Will Aruna's
journey to restore her taste buds be successful?
Review of Aruna & Lidahnya:
Aruna & Lidahnya is a film adapted from the novel of the same name by Laksmi Pamuntjak. This film has an interesting idea, raising the themes of culinary, politics, friendship, and love. Each of these topics, although different, can be presented as a cohesive presentation.
Using food as an analogy to depict each problem in the film is not easy. However, it is successfully done well. Viewers are also introduced to various foods that they may not have known before. It will surely make viewers crave the appealing display.
Another interesting thing is the interaction between the film and the viewers. Aruna looks at the camera several times and delivers her dialogue. This scene shows Aruna talking to the viewers about what's happening in the film. So viewers are as if they are involved in their journey.
The acting from the cast is definitely not in doubt. The impressive acting when Dian has to act and deliver a message to the viewers only through facial expressions. Even without dialogue, the message she wants to convey is delivered well.
Cinematography, camera movement, and color composition are
pretty good. Especially some scenes that require detailed filming. Overall,
this film is interesting to watch for those who like light romance stories.
Memorable Scene:
Aruna decides to eat rujak soto alone after seeing Nad and
Farish's closeness. While eating the food, Aruna analogizes the events she
feels with the taste of the food. Where sometimes different foods don't have to
be combined because it will make the taste not meet expectations. This scene
presents the character's feelings very well with an interesting analogy.
Memorable Dialogue:
"Some dishes are meant to come from one person."
Ending:
Happy Ending
Recommendation:
Must Watch
